For over a century, the Kadoorie family has played a defining yet understated role in shaping the cultural and economic landscape of Hong Kong, Shanghai, and beyond. Their legacy, built through enterprise, philanthropy, and long-term stewardship, has always been guided by discreet presence over high visibility.
The updates were subtle – a more modern font that respects the legacy of the office, balancing uniqueness with anonymity.
Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons Ltd. (SEKSL) is the steward of this enduring philosophy—a family office grounded in quiet influence, purposeful action, and generational legacy. Eat was engaged to formalise SEKSL’s identity and create its first digital presence, not as an act of promotion, but as a considered expression of who they are.
Unlike conventional branding projects, this was not about increasing visibility or driving engagement, but rather to articulate presence and identity without altering its essence and to design a digital experience that communicates quietly and intuitively. The website would serve as a point of reference, offering understanding without revealing too much.
Typography, spacing, and subtle detailing were carefully calibrated to convey quiet confidence and timelessness
We began with a focused discovery phase to align on purpose and intent. SEKSL manages a portfolio of companies around the world and maintains a balance of business and philanthropy. Through stakeholder conversations and a review of historical materials, we identified the underlying story and principles that defines SEKSL and drives its team: continuity, discretion, and considered influence.
For their visual identity, we refined their identity system, drawing from existing internal references and formalising them into a cohesive, minimal framework. Typography, spacing, and subtle detailing were carefully calibrated to convey quiet confidence and timelessness. A simple visual language ensures the identity remains adaptable and enduring.
The website was conceived as a calm, deliberate space, introduced through a finely crafted line drawing of the original St. George’s Building, SEKSL's headquarters located in Hong Kong’s premier finance and business district. Through a simple yet striking animation, this illustration transitions into its present-day form, expressing its continuity across generations.
Motion and interaction throughout the site remain minimal and intentional. Every element works together to create a sense of composure, with multilingual functionality and a simple CMS ensuring the platform remains practical and maintainable.
The result is a unified identity and digital presence that reflects SEKSL’s ethos with precision and care. Eat then extended this identity to a minimal, elegant stationery suite for their written communication. By translating legacy into a contemporary framework, Eat established a clear identity and presence for SEKSL, one that can act as a strong foundation for their evolution.
